Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

This book is a prequel to Peter Pan. It is the first of four books in the series. It is about how Peter comes to Never Land with the rest of the boys. The Peter and Wendy’s mother, Molly are the hero and heroin of this book. The magical star stuff which has many special powers is the center of a war between the Starcatchers and the fearsome Others. A gang of pirates are also after the star stuff.

This book is filled with excitement, adventure, pirates, mermaids and lots more. It is a page turner that will leave you wanting to read the next book in the series, Peter and the Shadow Thieves.

I enjoyed this book because it was exciting, had a great plot and very loveable characters. This book is good for any age.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

In this story Marissa Meyer takes a classic fairy tale and turns it into a book you will never want to put down. It takes place in a futuristic world, where humans and androids live together, plagued by a mysterious illness with no cure. But that’s not their only problem, the ruthless queen of Luna, waits in space for the perfect moment to strike.

Cinder is a mechanic cyborg, with a mysterious past, but her whole life will get turned around when the handsome prince Kai shows up at her booth. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past to save the world.

This book has the perfect mix of action, romance, mystery and sarcasm, I couldn’t put it down once I started.  Marissa Meyer will take on a known journey with many new, unexpected twists..

I have read this series 4 times since I first read it this summer and I love it even more each time, I fully recommend this book. Available at the Almonte Branch.

Monument 14

Monument 14 By: Emmy Laybourne

Monument 14 is a book about a bunch of kids that start their day off like any other day, they get on the bus in the morning, tell their parents that they will see them later, and move on with the morning. It would never occur to you that someday could be your last day. 14 kids start their day like this in a place called Monument. They get on the bus in the morning and are on the way to school when a massive crazy hailstorm breaks out and forces the kids to take shelter in a store. They think that it will pass but little do they know that there will be bigger problems.

This is an action packed book that will keep you reading so that you won’t want to stop. You will be upset when it is over and you will want to read the next one.

The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson

13453104I absolutely loved this book! I also love what Wikipedia has to say about it: “the standalone novel The Summer Prince, is set on a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk Brazilian arcology ruled by a nanotech-empowered matriarchy”.

The story is a fiery love triangle, filled with diverse and dignified characters, art and adventure. The world building in this story is fabulous and culturally rich! Available at the Almonte Branch: YA Fic Johns
